What's the Formula for Feeding a Baby?

Infant formula is often called an alternative to breastmilk, which implies new parents always choose breastmilk as their first choice for their baby’s food.

The times they are a changing!

When the topic of infant feeding comes up during our time with parents, we find that they are nervous to broach the subject.

There are a multitude of reasons for this feeding anxiety in soon-to-be-new-parents.

  • Misinformation around feeding

  • Society's guilt and pressure

  • They’ve been inundated with horror stories centered around other people’s feeding experiences.

  • Trauma history

  • Fear of not being able to sustain a style of feeding

  • Fear of not being “enough”

Did you have to take a deep breath in after reading the above list? We did. But, we’re not the kind of humans who will ever shame you for choosing one feeding style over another.

Is breastmilk incredible? Yes!

Is formula incredible? Yes!

Here’s what we know to be true:

Infant formula and breastmilk are both complete foods for your baby up to six months of age. Formula can be an alternative milk for your child. Formula can be a supplemental milk to someone who is working on supply issues. Formula can also be a parent’s first choice for feeding their child.

We consider feeding your baby to be morally neutral.

You are not good or bad for choosing one complete food for your baby over the other. You are a parent who has chosen what works for your family and we’re really proud of you for doing so.
