Have You Asked Your Doula's Opinion?

I'm a rather opinionated person.

I'm not sure it's something I'm proud of, but it's a part of who I am.

What do I think of the color 'forest green?' - It's ugly (even if it was a main color in my wedding).

How do I feel about sushi? So disgusting and shouldn't be eaten by anyone.

Tomatoes? Of the devil.

Dave Matthews? Best.music.ever.

Horror movies? Ban them.

Politics? Ban that, too.

Coffee or tea? Always coffee.

There are many things in life that I will share my opinion on.

Many.things.

An opinion is defined as a belief or judgement that does not have sufficient proof of certainty or a personal view/attitude. I have a great deal of personal views.

One of my (many) opinions is that a doula should keep her personal views and opinions about birth out of her work.

Do I have opinions on:

*Induction?

*Circumcision?

*Pitocin?

*Breastfeeding?

*Epidural?

I absolutely do... when it comes to my own birth and my own children.

Will my clients ever hear my opinions on topics like those? No.

I am happy to share factual information with clients on a wide variety of birth related issues, but my personal views, attitudes, judgements, opinions, etc, have absolutely no place in labor.

Pacific Northwest Doulas provides continuous support to every client without judgement. No matter what type of birth you are planning and/or hoping for, we are here to provide you with the preparation to head that direction. We offer childbirth classes that allow you to choose your own direction in birth. It's just who we are.

The only opinion about your birth that really matters is yours.

(Well, as long as that opinion doesn't include tomatoes or forest green.)
